Yes! We have students who are planning to enter all manner of colleges and fields upon graduation. Recently, the Valedictorian was a Band Officer, Percussion Section Leader, Area Candidate, and was involved in multiple other clubs and activities! Over the last five years, we have had many National Merit Scholar Finalists and even more National Merit Commended Scholars in the Hebron Band. The Hebron Band averages two or three National Merit Finalists each year. The class schedule at Hebron is designed to allow students to pursue a full schedule of classes and play in band yearlong all four years. In addition, LISD’s offering of online classes continues to expand. Many of Hebron’s top students are also outstanding band members, including class valedictorians and salutatorians. Visit with your guidance counselor to see how your schedule can accommodate Band membership and even the most challenging academic classes and graduation endorsements. You can find superb information of how band can fit into any academic schedule at www.TMEA.org

Yes, especially in the early high school years. Contrary to popular assumption, band members are actively involved in many athletic programs of all levels at Hebron. The athletic staff, band directors, and counselors work closely to make this possible for most events. Please advise your academic counselor if you desire to participate in band and in an athletic event as well. This will better help them arrange your class schedule to get the classes that you need and minimize potential unforeseen class conflicts. Full, four-year concurrent participation in band and athletics will likely require some combination of summer school and/or online courses.

No! Just enroll! All interested students are admitted into the program with the director’s approval. Simply follow the instructions of your middle school directors or Hebron High School directors for enrollment procedures. Once you sign up for band, you will be contacted soon with informational materials and a chance to examine the upcoming year. There will be auditions for class placement May 6th, 2026 and again in November of 2026. Chair placement auditions do occur for part assignments, band class placement, and marching slot placement. Auditions for color guard and percussion occur in April and May of each year. Further information for students seeking to audition for color guard is available separately. A student need not be an instrumentalist or a current middle school band member to audition for the color guard.
-
All middle school students should sign up for 3rd Period Concert Band. We conduct auditions for official class placement May 6th, 2026 for the fall semester and again in November of 2026 for the spring semester. However, this initial enrollment helps the Hebron High School counselors get a head start on working on a preliminary class schedule for you.

Summer Band Camp starts on July 24th. We’ll rehearse intensively throughout the month of August.

Yes, after school on April 27 – April 30, 2026 at Hebron. Tentative times are 5:30-7:30 PM. In addition, there will be corresponding information sessions for incoming freshmen band parents offered simultaneously. Parent Orientation sessions, “What to Expect from High School Band,” are offered on April 28 and April 30, 2026 beginning at 6:00 PM in the Hebron High School Library. Your parents need to attend one of these two evening sessions.

Incoming freshmen are often concerned about marching. It is a learned skill and it is unlike anything you have done so far in music. Marching fundamentals are taught and demonstrated daily. The physical demands of marching band are not unlike any other athletic event. We stretch and condition ourselves daily and practice to perfect our skills. Once again, band students receive PE credit for the first nine weeks. Most students consider marching as one of the highlights of their school music careers. Freshmen students will receive a great deal of personal attention from the marching staff and our upperclassmen student leaders. We’ll introduce marching fundamentals in April and at the May Minicamp.

The fall semester is the busiest time. The Marching Band meets after school, 3 days a week, during football season plus one morning rehearsal a week, usually on Friday in Hawk Stadium. Since the Band performs at all varsity football games, we also meet Friday evenings. Our competitive season begins in very late September and lasts until mid November. These competitions are almost always on Saturday. This six-week time frame is the busiest for all high school bands. Marching Band begins on July 24th with the kick-off of our Summer Band Camp. In the spring semester, sectionals occur one morning a week and solo/ensemble times are usually after school. Students are encouraged, but not required, to take private lessons and must practice their instrument outside of class to meet performance expectations.
-
No! Above all, you are at Hebron High School to receive an academic education. Good grades are mostly dependent on effective time management skills and good personal discipline. Almost all the band students take AP and Pre-AP classes. In addition, most students find that their highest grades of the entire year occur during the fall semester, at the height of Marching Band season. If you are conscientious about your classroom experience and stay organized, grades should be no problem. Many of Hebron’s top scholars are in band. The band’s schedule has been carefully developed to compliment Hebron’s academic offerings. Tutors are available both inside and outside the band program to supplement classroom teaching. A student must be academically eligible to participate in most Hebron High Band events.

Yes, several times yearly. During the fall semester the Hebron Band regularly travels to San Antonio for the Bands of America Super Regional and to the UIL State Marching Contest, if competitively selected. Spring travel would alternate yearly between “In State” and “Out of State” destinations. “In State” destinations are usually Houston, San Antonio, or South Padre Island. “Out of State” destinations in recent years have been California, Orlando, Chicago, and Washington DC. Our concert ensembles, color guard, and percussion ensembles compete and travel separately as well.
-
The Hebron High School Marching Band performs at all Varsity football games, all football playoff games, pep rallies, and six or seven regional or statewide competitive marching contests each fall semester. Our concerts bands perform five to ten concerts at various locations during the spring semester. Chamber ensembles, color guard, and percussion ensembles also perform numerous times throughout the spring semester.
-
Yes! Our student officers, staff, and band boosters organize social events throughout the year. This year will end with an all-band picnic to include the incoming freshmen. There are several social functions as a part of summer band. There is an annual band picnic, Halloween Party, lock-ins, marchathons, paintball, game night, and the end of year Spring Band Awards Banquet.
